Rhode Island, New England, is the smallest state of the USA and is actually not an island. It was named by explorer Adrian Block who baptised it "Roodt Eylandt" (meaning Red Island in Dutch), inspired by the red clay lining the shores.
RI is known for its 400 miles of coastline, sandy shores, and seaside colonial towns.
